Free money when transiting through Singapore Changi airport

Not many of you know that by law you can get up to 40 Singapore Dollars for free to spend at Changi airport. This money can be used to spend on shopping, dining, accommodation and a host of services for your comfort and convenience (exclusions apply). As part of the Changi Transit Programme, this money, known as the Changi Dollar Voucher (CDV) is given to all transiting passengers meeting certain criteria.

Eligibility Criteria
Passengers must be travelling on flights operated by Singapore Airlines or SilkAir for both into and out of Changi Airport. Any connecting flight into or out of Changi Airport that is not operated by Singapore Airlines or SilkAir must be operated by Air New Zealand or Scoot. (Please check for specific flight numbers for all eligible airlines in the complete list of criteria link at the end of this post)

Some of the main conditions are:

Passengers must be on transit in Changi Airport on both legs of their journey, which means Singapore is neither the point of origin nor the end destination. Transit passengers on one-way journey or ticket are not eligible. For example, a passenger whose journey is:

(i) “London – Singapore – Sydney (return)” is eligible;
(ii) “London – Singapore – London” is not eligible;
(iii) A one-way journey “London – Singapore – Sydney only” is not eligible.

Passengers must have at least 1 of their transit duration in Changi Airport to be within 24 hours. This is calculated from the Scheduled Time of Arrival (STA) of the arriving flight to Changi Airport to the Scheduled Time of Departure (STD) of the connecting departure flight out of Changi Airport.

Passengers can only claim the CDV once, on either leg of their journey, regardless if it was issued over two or more separate e-tickets.

Value of voucher
For transit passengers with tickets issued between 1 April 2015 and 30 September 2016 (both dates inclusive) and departure dates from point of origin is between 1 April 2016 to 31 March 2017 (both dates inclusive):

The voucher redemption value differs based on your point of origin.

You will receive a CDV worth S$20 if you point of origin is:

Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates or Vietnam

You will receive two S$20 CDV, where one of which will be for applicable for Liquor, Perfumes or Cosmetics purchases only, and if your point of origin is:

Australia, China (Mainland), Europe including Russia and Turkey, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom

 

For transit passengers with tickets issued between 1 October 2016 and 31 March 2017 (both dates inclusive) and departure dates from point of origin is between 1 October 2016 and 31 March 2017 (both dates inclusive):

You will receive a CDV worth S$20 if you point of origin is:

Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Europe including Russia and Turkey, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, the Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, the Philippines, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America or Vietnam

You will receive two S$20 CDV, where one of which will be for applicable for Liquor, Perfumes or Cosmetics purchases only, and if your point of origin is:

China (Mainland)

 

Where to collect the voucher
Eligible passengers can proceed to the iShopChangi Collection Centres which are open 24 hours daily and situated near the GST Refund counters in the transit areas of Terminals 2 and 3. Please present your passport, boarding passes and all e-tickets showing your full itinerary as well as booking confirmation of your land and sea transfers.
